Using specifi cally formulated diets or dietary supplements to prevent and to treat cancer is in its infancy; however, enough information exists to begin making some recommendations to prevent and treat cancer in people and dogs.1–5 In human medicine, several nutritional factors have been found to increase the risk and rate of developing cancer, including3-–5: •Obesity •Consumption of nutrient-sparse foods, such as concentrated sugars and refi ned fl our products •Low fi ber intake •Inadequate consumption of polyunsaturated fatty acids of the n-3 series (n-3 PUFAs) and an increase consumption of PUFAs of the n-6 series (n-6 PUFAs)
